Preston Flute Group was formed in 1985 by Mike Walder, a local flute teacher keen to promote all aspects of flute playing. Sadly, Mike is no longer with us, but Preston Flute Group continues with his aim of promoting flute playing in the local area.

We meet once a fortnight in Woodplumpton on the outskirts of Preston and play ensemble music. The group owns its own Pearl 201 alto flute with a curved head for smaller players, and other members have three alto flutes and one bass flute. We are currently fundraising for a bass flute for the group. We've also recently acquired contr'alto and contra-bass flutes. These very rare instruments give us an enormous range. If you would like to join us, or find out more details, please contact us using the link on the home page.

We have a current membership of around 15 people, aged between 18 and 50(ish!). There is no entry requirement in terms of standard, but our repertoire is not suitable for beginners. If you would like to come along and join us for an evening to see how you get on, please contact us.

We organise a flute afternoon three times a year, open to all flautists of grade 1 standard and above. You will find details of our next afternoon in the Forthcoming Events Section. Please let us know if you would like to be added to our Forthcoming Events mailing list.

We currently try to perform at least three times a year, and details of our last concerts can be found on the Previous Events Page.

Current subscription for a years membership is £20.00 (students £10.00). This covers all rehearsals for the year commencing in September and gives free entry to all our open flute choir afternoons. It also includes group membership to the British Flute Society. For non-members the first rehearsal is free, and after that the cost is £3.00 per rehearsal.
